TechStar Computers started out being a strictly computer sales and upgrades company, in 2000 we realized how much web hosting companies were over charging for web hosting. The first venture in hosting was on a Windows 2000 server and was great until perl literally killed the server. We moved to a Linux based server and again was going good until we ran into another problem, Bandwidth. We were running about 30GB/month in bandwidth and the host didn't want to have anything to do with us. We packed up again and now have a dedicated server (Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz, 1GB memory, Dual 80GB SCSI Hard Drives, a 10Mbit connection to multiple Verio OC3, DS3 and multiple Gigabit lines to the backbone.) We have been online since June of 2002 and have had 3 brief periods of downtime, two were for upgrades, (PHP, MailScanner, Bastille Linux Firewall, MySQL, etc.) and the second being the provider for the lines had a fiber cut and was routed to a different connection within an hour.
